Communication

Communication between Home and School

Good communication is essential for the home-school partnership to work in the way we all want.   If your family circumstances change it may have an effect on your child at school.  This may include long term sickness of a relative, family bereavement or parental separation.  Please inform the school of any changes.

We communicate first hand with families through parent/teacher interviews and information evenings.

Our day to day communication takes the form of emails, website postings or texts. Sometimes your child may be the ”post person” so please check book bags daily too.  When your child starts to bring books home to read with you, please make positive comments in the record book provided and sign to show they have read at home.  The teacher will read and sign your child’s Reading Record book weekly.  Further information about reading can be found here

A newsletter from the headteacher is issued regularly and posted online.  There are regular PA communications and the School Council and Eco Team write updates for the website.

Our website is updated at least weekly and is the main source of information regarding term dates, forthcoming activities and notices that have been sent home.

Parent / Teacher Meetings

Reception Classes:

Your child will be invited to visit the school towards the end of the term prior to starting school.  This will be an opportunity for children to meet their teacher and other children in their class and to spend time in their classroom.  This is a visit without parents, unless of course your child is very reluctant to leave you, in which case you are welcome to stay too.

There is a parent/teacher interview in the autumn term to meet your child’s class teacher and discuss how your child is settling into the class and their general progress. In the spring term there is a further parent/teacher interview to discuss your child’s progress and an opportunity to have a look at his/her work.

Towards the end of the summer term you will receive a written report on your child’s progress.  If you wish, the class teacher will be pleased to discuss this report with you.  At other times in the year you will be invited into school to share your child’s learning with them.

Key Stage One and Two

In the first two weeks of the autumn term in Key Stage 1 you will be invited to a meeting with the class teacher.  This meeting is primarily a “getting to know each other” opportunity where your general questions about routines and practical details can be answered, and where you can meet other parents in your child’s class.

Whole school and Parental Help

We do encourage parents to come into school to talk to class teachers and to the headteacher.  You are very welcome to call in after school to talk with staff if you have a concern about your child.  Please make an appointment with the class teacher or headteacher if a longer meeting is necessary.

We welcome parental help in school; we feel it is of real benefit to the home - school partnership.  Please discuss appropriate times for helping in school with your child’s teacher.  This may be a regular commitment or perhaps just occasional help with a particular activity.

All parent volunteers are required to complete an online application for Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).  Please see the School Secretary who will forward the web link, together with instructions on how to apply.

Helping in school may include: playing games, gardening, hearing reading, sewing, cooking, making/repairing resources and assisting with school visits and local area walks.

Parents' Association

As a parent you are automatically a member of the Parents’ Association (Friends of Ascot Heath Primary School).  Being actively involved in the PA is another way of helping the school by raising money for much appreciated “extras” for the children through social events, children’s activities and bring-and-buy/cake sales.  The PA produces regular information on what is being planned and sends an annual report to parents.

In the past year the PA have bought Learn Pad tablets, Read, Write Inc resources, a bird box and web camera,  Christmas gifts for each class, Year 2 Leavers’ gifts and party.
