Times table practice
To help your children improve their times table knowledge below are some games they can play online.
Welcome to Robin Class -Year 4
Mrs Phelan, Mrs Padley and Ms Cramond
Welcome back to Summer Term!!
Year 4 had a very productive Spring Term despite the lockdown! I was very impressed by the self-discipline the children demonstrated and also by the work they produced. You can see examples in the photos above.
During the end of the term, back at school, we studied persuasive writing and created some wonderful posters persuading people to save the rainforests. Furthermore, the children wrote persuasive letters to a number of local garden centres, persuading them to donate equipment to use in our new school vegetable garden. We have already had some positive replies!! In science we studied 'Sound' and 'The Digestive System'.
The children really enjoyed creating 'parabolic' straight line curves with thread.
This term, Year 4 will be studying 'States of Matter' in science, including 'The Water Cycle'. In English the focus is 'Instructions and Explanation Texts', and after half term, 'Fairy Tales' and 'Playscripts'. Of course, as the weather improves, we intend to make good use of our vegetable plot.
In P.E. the children will be playing tennis, gymnastics, athletics and golf. P.E. will take place on Thursday and Friday afternoons. If your child is wearing a summer dress, please may you send some shorts/leggings and a top to change into. Also, please make sure that he or she wears appropriate footwear on these days, i.e. trainers or plimsoles.
Maths topics include decimals, statistics, properties of shape and the four operations. We certainly will enjoy a very busy term!
Here are a few things you need to know:
Spellings will be tested every Tuesday - a half termly spelling sheet has been sent home. See attachment.
Times tables tests take place every Tuesday and Thursday. Both tests will be marked and sent home with your child so that you can see how well they have performed and which tables need to be practised. See attachment.
Your child has also been given a 'reading record book' to take home and back to school daily. Please try to listen to your child read aloud at least four times per week. Ask questions about the text to develop comprehension skills.
We will set a comprehension exercise on 'Teams' every Friday to be completed by the following Friday.
We will also set a task every Friday on mymaths.
Please encourage your children to spend time on TTRockstars, mymaths and to learn their spellings.
Thank you all for the support you have given and please don't hesitate to raise any worries or ask questions via the school email.
