Our Vision

At Ascot Heath Primary School we want all our children to have an understanding of the past and how history will shape their future. We believe that through the teaching of high quality lessons we can encourage the development of key skills and attitudes towards becoming rounded individuals, as well as foster a sense of curiosity. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups. It also helps children gain a sense of their own identity within a social, political, cultural and economic background. The teaching of History should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement. It develops chronological understanding and allows pupils to develop a sense of perspective. Teaching history begins in the Early Years and is built upon throughout their primary school journey. We want our pupils to be passionate about history and enjoy learning about past events locally, nationally and globally as well as learn about significant individuals, who have contributed to local, national and international achievements. Whilst teaching history we will endeavour to have a fair representation of gender, cultures and countries.

For each subject we have created a progression of skills and knowledge document. You can view the History documents by clicking on the titles below:

Key Stage One             Lower Key Stage Two              Upper Key Stage Two
