Homework

Maths and Spelling homework will be set on a Monday, with the expectation it is handed in the following Monday.

Spellings

The children are given a list of words at the beginning of each half term. They are taught the spelling rule at the beginning of the week and then the test is usually carried out on a Monday.  Spelling List is attached below.

Timestables

The children all have access to TT-Rockstars, which they are encouraged to use to help them improve their speed at answering questions. Occasionally they will have time in school to use TT-Rockstars. Most children are on the automatic training mode, which works through the timetables in a set order. Log in details for TT-rockstars have already been given to children in previous years but this will be sent home again with children as needed. On a Friday the children take part in a Club 99 challenge, they are given  their tests  so they can share with you how they have done.

Club 99 is a set of challenges that get increasingly more difficult. The children are given 8 minutes to complete the questions.

Once a week children will also complete a speed times-table practice session in which they complete a times-table grid as quickly as possible. This has been attached below for you in case you would like to practice this with your child at home.

Reading

The whole of the KS2 will be taking part in an exciting new reading challenge throughout the whole academic year. Reading record booklets will be sent home with each child and children are required to try to read a few times a week. Parents need to sign these reading records after each time their child has done some reading. Reading record booklets will then be collected promptly on a Thursday morning and will be checked. The number of times each child has read over that week will be recorded (maximum one recording per day of reading) and prizes will be given to children as they reach certain milestones.

Autumn term: Certificates will be given via Marvellous Me for 25 and 75 reads.  If you child receives both certificates they will join us for a cinema experience in the last week of term. We will collect final read day counts the week before we break up for Christmas.

Spring termCertificates will be given via Marvellous Me for 25 and 50 reads (Y4 only have to reach a target of 45 due to Hindleap).  If your child receives both certificates, they will join us for an Easter hunt in the last week of term. Due to the organisation of the event, the last counted read day will be Friday 15th March.
