Lunchtimes

Lunch Arrangements

From September 2014 the government has funded schools in England to provide every child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with a hot, nutritious meal at lunch time.  Children may bring a packed lunch from home or have a school dinner and they may vary their lunchtime arrangements.

Lunchtime for Early Years is between 12.00 noon and 1.00 p.m. and includes a playtime.  All children eat lunches with their friends in the school hall.  Lunchtime is 12.15 p.m. – 1.15 p.m. for Years 1 and 2.

School Lunches:

Our school lunches are provided by ISS Catering. They are cooked at Ascot Heath Junior School and brought down in a heated trolley.   The menu is issued either in the new starter pack or before starting school full-time.  The menu is displayed on the school notice board, reception area and school website. click here to see the current menu:

  • Drinking water is always available but children may bring in a drink from

      home – clearly named please.

  • Please ensure that your child is able to use a knife and fork.
  • Please talk with your child about the menu choices.
  • Please pre-order your lunch from home so that you know what your child is eating.

Click here for further details about school lunches and how to order.

Special Diets

If your child requires a special diet menu i.e. dairy/gluten free, please collect a diet referral form from the school office.

Water in School

We encourage children to drink water as often as possible in school.  Please send in water bottle, clearly named, each morning.  Children will be encouraged to take it home every day to be washed and refilled.

 Packed Lunches:

Children may bring a packed lunch from home.

  • Please send packed lunches in named packed lunch bags or boxes.
  • No sweets, chocolate bars, lollipops or fizzy drinks.
  • Drinking water is always available.
  • Practise opening and closing lunch bags/boxes at home. Some fasteners are difficult for small hands!
  • No nuts or nut products e.g peanut butter, almonds, walnuts etc - we have several children with severe nut allergies.

 Food Allergies

We have an allocated table for children with food allergies, this gives a high level of protection for children with all severity of allergies, reducing risk from cross-contamination or accidental exposure to allergens (e.g. nuts, wheat, dairy etc).  However, if your child has a food allergy but you would prefer that your child does not sit on the separate allergy table, please inform the school office in writing.
