Playtimes

Playtimes

We have two play areas for all of the children.  The front playground is used all year round and the field is used in good weather.  The Parents’ Association (PA) has provided a gazebo, play huts, train and picnic tables together with toys and games equipment to enhance the children’s play.  These have been supplemented in 2017-18 with a wide range of resources and games funded through our Sports Funding Grant.  We also employ a Sports Coach from SCL three lunchtimes each week to support children's play and to develop social and physical skills in a fun, relaxed environment.

Playtime Problems

Playtime is important and should be a fun time for the children.  However, sometimes children have a friendship issue at play/lunch times and we are always happy to sort out playtime problems.  In school we make sure the children understand that they should tell an adult straight away if they have a problem at playtime.  If you can reinforce this message at home it would be really helpful.  However, if your child is having problems at playtime, perhaps finding it difficult to join in, please do not hesitate to talk to their class teacher.  We have a, ‘friendship bench’ and Year 2 buddies to support children at playtime. The school has an anti-bullying policy that you are welcome to read on the school website or please ask in the school office.

Weather

Children go outside in all weathers except heavy rain or snow.  Children go out when it is drizzling or cold.  Therefore children must bring a coat to school every day unless the weather is very warm.  In the winter hats, scarves and gloves may be brought in but please ensure that they, along with coats, are clearly named.  Children are encouraged to wear sun hats during summer sunny playtimes.  Please apply sunscreen to your children before school on hot days.  they may bring in a stick sun cream to apply themselves if they need a 'top up'.  We also encourage children to play in the shade on sunny days.  Our picnic tables and playground equipment are positioned under the trees and the gazebo on the field provides extra shelter from the sun.
