Safeguarding

Safeguarding Children

We have a school Child Protection Policy available on the school website.  This states that any evidence of child abuse will be reported to the Duty Officer at the LA Social Services.  The designated child protection officer is Mrs Catherine Bates.  If you have a concern about a child’s welfare please speak in confidence to Mrs Bates or her deputy Miss Barrett or our FSA Mrs Eyers. Click here for further information about our safeguarding procedures.

Punctuality

Children are able to come into school from 8.45 a.m.  Registration is between 8.55 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. and lessons begin promptly after registration.  We are understanding about an occasional, unavoidable late morning but we do have to record lateness in the register.  The FSA or Education Welfare Officer will follow up repeated lateness and absence.

Absences

We have a legal obligation to record all absences and to record the reason for an absence as authorised or unauthorised.  The Educational Welfare Officer monitors school attendance.  Please refer to our attendance policy available on the school website or from the office.

Each term you will receive a letter detailing your child’s attendance.  We would expect all children to have an attendance of at least 95%.

If your child is absent from school, please notify us of the reason by telephoning the school on the first day of absence.  On return to school, please send a written note to the class teacher.

We strongly discourage parents from keeping children away from school for family trips or holidays as these absences are very disruptive to the children’s progress.  No holiday requests will be granted unless extraordinary circumstances, any absence through holiday may be unauthorised.  Please read absence policy and leaflet.
